Opposition Congress members in West Bengal Assembly today voiced their protest against the law and order situation in the state.

Led by Congress legislature party leader Md Sohrab, party MLAs walked into the House shouting slogans, carrying placards demanding justice for the victims of violence in incidents of Ketugram and Sabang.

"It is very unfortunate that a hunger strike (by Congress MLA Manas Bhuniya demanding CBI probe in Sabang case) is going on and no medical team was sent by the government," Sohrab told reporters later on.

He demanded justice in the Sabang college incident in which a student Krishna Prasad Jana was "lynched" and Ketugram incident of Burdwan in which Shahina Khatoon was "raped and killed".

The Assembly, which began its week-long session today, was adjourned after making obituary references to former President A P J Abdul Kalam and nine other eminent persons who died recently.

Speaker Biman Banerjee read out the obituary references to Kalam and nine others.

The members stood up and observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed.
