A two-week photo exhibition, “60 solutions against climate change” began at the Rangoli Metro Art Center on MG Road in the City on Friday.
The French Embassy in India, Agence Francaise de Développement (AFD) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), are jointly hosting the exhibition that presents concrete initiatives in four sectors: cities, agriculture, energy efficiency and adaptation to climate change.
After inaugurating the exhibition, Francois Gautier, Consul General of France in Bengaluru, said that the exhibition is being held to break the myth that environment is a luxury of developed nations and not of developing ones.
The exhibition comprises 21 photos by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, globally acclaimed photographer and chairman of the GoodPlanet Foundation, from his famous, “Earth from Above” series. Yann, who was not a part of the inauguration, as he was busy shooting in Paris, has been taking photographs under the theme, “Earth from Above,” since last 30 years.
All the photographs exhibited are areal images of cities, oceans, islands, homes and environment.
This is said to be the first of its kind photography exhibition in Bengaluru. Similar exhibitions have been held in 200 other cities world over.
While France is gearing up to host the COP21 in December, AFD and the GoodPlanet Foundation are using images to highlight innovative and effective solutions combining the fight against climate change and economic development.
The theme of exhibition, “60 solutions against climate change,” shows what solutions have been found in other countries and how a balance has been maintained on climate change, waste management, sustainable energy and water crises.
The photographs displayed convey a theme, background and literature of the location. The list of places include, Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Coral Sea in Dominican Republic, Shanghai (China), Bangladesh, France, Cambodia, Mali, Madagascar, Denmark and Mexico.
